Facts on Peacock


1) Male peafowl is called peacock while female is called peahen.

2) They are one of the largest flying birds, with lenghts of about 5 feet and weighing between 8 to 13 pounds.

3) The beautiful and colourful tails are characteristic only for the males.

4) Their tails make more than 60% of their total length.

5) A peahen chooses its partner in terms of length, width and colouration of the tail.

6) A family of peafowl is called a 'Berg'.

7) A group of peafowl is called a 'Party'.

8) A female lays about 4 eggs. Young birds hatch out after 28 days.
